You guys
might have already heard about beauty sleep and how you should get the right
amount of sleep to get beautiful skin. But what does really happen when you
don’t take enough sleep? What really happens when you are sleeping? In this
segment of “What it does?” you are going to find just that.
1. Cortisol production
So
“cortisol” may sound fancy to some of you but it is actually a hormone that is
produced when you sleep less. While regular levels of this hormone is necessary
for your body but large amount of it can cause weight gain, increased risk of heart related diseases, insomnia,
digestion related problems and much more.
2. Increases aging rate
When you
sleep, your body doesn’t. I say this because when you are in a deep sleep
phase, your body starts the cell repairment
process. All the damage that your skin went through the day, does not
get repaired if you don’t take enough sleep and the result is appearance of
wrinkles at an early age.
3. Weight gain
It has been
shown in various scientific studies that sleeping less tends to increase
calorie intake and urge to more snacking.
4. Increases puffiness
You might
know that sleeping less gives you puffy eyes as a gift, but the real reason
behind puffy eyes is that when you take lesser sleep, the fluids that actually needs
to be excreted builds up inside the layers of your skin instead, resulting in
puffiness.
5. Risk of frequent diseases
Your skin
acts as a barrier for all the disease causing creatures. But if your skin is
not healthy, it might not be able to resist those attacks resulting in lesser
immunity and more diseases.
6. Increased skin conditions
Lesser sleep
results in more skin conditions like acne, psoriasis, eczema. It also increase existing
skin conditions like acne breakouts, sensitivity, allergic contact and
dermatitis reactions.
7. Loss of skin’s natural glow
When you
sleep, your body makes collagen hyaluronic acid but if you don’t, these
compounds become depleted and as a result, skin looses its natural glow and
bounce.
